Post #4 – Voice Input Best Practices (Voice-to-Text vs Voice Mode)

by Tom McAtee | 4 Aug 2025 | General Reflections

Speak faster, but speak clearly.

Typing is slow. Speaking is fast. But how you speak to AI matters.

There are two ways to use voice with ChatGPT:

    1. Voice-to-Text – Tap the microphone in the input bar. Great for quick thoughts and idea capture.

    2. Voice Mode – Available in the ChatGPT mobile app (or desktop with a shortcut). This gives you a spoken conversation — it listens and talks back.

When to use each:

    • Use Voice-to-Text when you want to narrate ideas quickly and still edit before submitting.

    • Use Voice Mode when you want a live, back-and-forth experience — like thinking out loud with a coach.

Pro tip: You don’t need to say “comma” or “full stop” when using Voice-to-Text. ChatGPT auto-punctuates surprisingly well.
